Crock Pot Pho

Our Crock Pot Pho is a convenient and flavorful adaptation of the traditional Vietnamese dish, utilizing the slow cooker for a simplified preparation. This dish typically involves simmering beef, aromatic spices like star anise and cinnamon, along with rice noodles and fresh herbs. The slow cooking process allows the flavors to meld together, resulting in a rich and satisfying broth that’s perfect for chilly days. Crock Pot Pho is a comforting meal that captures the essence of pho with minimal effort.


Crock Pot Pho

 

Ingredients

4 lbs. Beef Bones
1/2 Onion, chopped
4 inch Ginger, peeled and sliced
2 Cinnamon Sticks
2 tsp. Whole Corriander
1 tsp. Fennel
3 Star Anise
3 Cloves
1 Cardamom Pod
9 Cups Water
2 1/2 Tbsp. Fish Sauce
1 tsp. Sugar


Steps

  1. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and boil bones for 10 minutes.
  2. Toast the spices until fragrant in a large, dry frying pan. Put toasted spices into a crock pot.
  3. Heat oil in the same large frying pan and add onion half and ginger. Cook until browned and add to crock pot.
  4. Rinse the beef bones under cold water after boiled for 10 minutes, add them to the crock pot.
  5. Fill the crock pot with cold water, just under the rim. Add the fish sauce and sugar.
  6. Cook on low for 8 hours.
  7. Once the broth is done, add your favorite Pho ingredients (ex. rice noodles, egg, beef, vegetables, sprouts, etc.).
